Oral sedation is a form of conscious sedation. It is usually recommended to help reduce anxiety, fear, and discomfort of patients during their dental appointment. Oral sedation is an easy treatment, as it requires no extra equipment or needles, only an orally administered medication that the patient needs to swallow. Oral sedation treatments are most commonly administered in the form of a pill, but may also occasionally be provided in the form of a liquid. Common oral sedation medications include Valium, Diazepam, Lorazepam, Ativan, and Versed.
Oral sedation, like all forms of sedation dentistry, requires a certification before you can provide it to your patients.
