Malocclusion is the misalignment of the teeth and jaws. It can be caused by both hereditary and environmental factors, and usually occurs during the patient’s growth and development in their earlier years. Problems involving the alignment of teeth are easier, quicker, and less expensive to treat when correct early. However, it is not uncommon for a patient to develop an occlusal problem or discrepancy later in life.
During your courses, our dentist will teach you how to use T-Scan technology to analyze your patient’s bite. The T-Scan device records bite force dynamics, including occlusal force, location, and timing. These measurements are used to determine where the discrepancies the bite are, and aid in planning appropriate treatment to minimize the destructive forces of your patient’s malocclusion.
Treatments for malocclusion may involve orthodontic treatment, restorative treatments, or tooth extractions. Treatment options you may want to offer your patients include:
- Braces
- Removable orthodontic appliances
- Fixed orthodontic appliances
- Retainers
- Tooth contouring
- Dental bonding
- Dental crowns
- Dental Bridges
- Dental Implants
- Bite Splints/Night Guards
