Dental crowns, also known as dental caps, are restorations that are placed over an implant post or an existing tooth. They are designed to restore damaged or worn teeth, anchor a dental bridge, and cosmetically correct gaps and misshapen teeth. They cover the entire tooth down to the gum line, and can be made of several different materials, including porcelain, ceramic, resin, porcelain with metal, or metal.
You may also recommend a dental crown to protect a tooth following a root canal procedure, strengthen teeth that are fractured or weakened, or to support a large filling when very little of the original tooth structure remains.
